The Ultimate Expression of Personal Style is Hand Crafted Jewellery

The subtle pleasure of unique style

In a world saturated with mass production, personal style has become an act of quiet rebellion. To the discerning woman, what she wears is not merely an accessory, but a statement—an outward reflection of her values, her story, and her aspirations. Nowhere is this more evident than in the realm of artisan jewellery.

For empowered women who appreciate fashion but also seek meaning behind their choices, artisanal jewellery offers a rare balance between beauty, individuality, and craftsmanship. Every handmade piece tells a story: of the hands that created it, the inspiration behind it, and the woman who chooses to wear it.

At Qismet, we believe jewellery should be more than just adornment. It should be a connection—between past and present, tradition and innovation, artisan and wearer. That’s why we carefully curate a collection of limited-edition, handcrafted pieces designed to resonate with women who value authenticity and understated luxury.

So why does artisan jewellery holds such emotional and stylistic power, and why it has become the ultimate expression of personal style for modern, confident women?

Fast Fashion vs. Artisan Craftsmanship

Walk into any major department store, and you’ll be met with rows of jewellery that, while visually appealing, often lacks soul. These mass-produced items are made quickly and cheaply, prioritising trends over timelessness.

Artisan jewellery stands in stark contrast.

Each piece is created by skilled makers who pour years of experience, creativity, and cultural heritage into every curve and clasp. These are not just objects; they are small works of art designed to endure. The process is slower, more intentional, and inherently more sustainable.

Women who have spent the time to build a career, start a family, or travel the world, have had time to refine their tastes and value quality over quantity. These women are increasingly seeking out these handcrafted alternatives that reflect their life, experience & values. They want pieces that feel unique - jewellery they won’t see on every other person at a gathering.

There is an emotional satisfaction in knowing that your jewellery has been touched, shaped, and perfected by human hands. It’s the difference between wearing a factory-made imitation and donning a creation imbued with craftsmanship and meaning.

At Qismet, our artisans often use traditional techniques passed down through generations. Whether it’s hand-forging metal, setting stones by hand, or using time-honoured engraving methods, every process leaves an unmistakable human imprint.

Fast fashion caters to seasons; artisan jewellery caters to lifetimes.

When you wear a handcrafted ring, necklace, or pair of earrings, you’re carrying not only an accessory but a story. One that speaks to your individuality, your attention to detail, and your belief in investing in pieces that stand the test of time.

The Story Behind Every Piece

Each item in our collection has a unique tale.

For Christina Mija (under her label  Mijaqisma), jewellery is a unique form of artistic expression. The endless possibilities that arise from combining materials and techniques mean there is always new ground to explore. As something both portable and wearable, jewellery travels through daily life and can be a simple adornment or a piece of art that reflects both the designer’s vision and the wearer’s self-expression.

Christina originally intended to become a fashion designer and was fortunate to train at East Sydney Technical College’s Dress Design Studio in the early 1980s—a course that imparted a myriad of practical skills while placing a strong emphasis on design for its own sake. Although Christina’s ambition to pursue fashion design did not endure, the design principles learned during this time have continued to influence her work.

Christina's love of jewellery and gemstones grew during the years she sold fine jewellery, primarily set with black opals and Argyle diamonds. This was Christina’s first exposure to precious gemstones, and feeling the need to deepen her knowledge, she enrolled at the GAA to study gemmology. In 1994, she achieved her Diploma of Gemmology, receiving both the Julia Myers Award and the NSW Trustees Award for best practical paper in the final exams.

Christina’s life journey eventually brought her to the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, in 2004, with a resolve to work creatively for herself. Seeking a mentor, she found the renowned silversmith Valerie Aked. Christina’s subsequent training at Aked’s Silver Studio provided the foundation she needed to bring her ideas to life.

Christina’s work emphasizes simple yet elegant forms that showcase the natural beauty of the materials she uses—very fine silver wire crocheted to create ethereal forms, and copper that is folded, hammered, and patinated.

When you purchase a piece from our store, you are entering this story. You are becoming the final chapter in its journey.

This is the magic of artisan jewellery. There’s an intimacy between the creator and the wearer. Unlike mass-produced pieces that are anonymous by nature, handmade jewellery carries with it a sense of identity. You’ll often find small imperfections—subtle differences that make each piece yours alone.

At Qismet, we intentionally seek out artisans who infuse every design with heart and heritage. From hand-etched pendants inspired by ancient symbols to earrings that echo the gentle curves of Australia’s coastal landscapes, every piece in our collection carries with it a memory, a maker, and a meaning.

Complementing a Timeless Wardrobe

Artisan jewellery is more than beautiful—it is versatile and enduring. For women who have cultivated a sophisticated, well-rounded wardrobe, handcrafted jewellery provides the finishing touch that elevates an outfit from polished to extraordinary.

A handcrafted necklace can breathe new life into a crisp white shirt or little black dress, while a pair of hand made earrings can add personality to an otherwise minimalist ensemble.

What sets these pieces apart is their adaptability. The organic textures and thoughtful detailing found in handmade jewellery complement both casual and formal wear. This makes each item a worthwhile investment—capable of transitioning from a relaxed weekend lunch in Byron Bay to a black-tie event in Sydney.

Moreover, hand crafted jewellery aligns beautifully with the principles of slow fashion. Instead of purchasing trendy items that lose their appeal after a season, women are increasingly building capsule wardrobes—selecting timeless, high-quality pieces they’ll wear for years.

Jewellery plays a crucial role in this strategy.

When you invest in a handcrafted, limited-edition bracelet or necklace, you are choosing something that enhances your style without overpowering it. These pieces don’t scream for attention; they speak softly, reflecting confidence, self-assurance, and an appreciation for subtle luxury.

At Qismet, we see jewellery as the punctuation in a woman’s personal style narrative. The right piece of handmade jewellery isn’t just an accessory—it’s a signature.
